Our Honorary Sister
Bella Kai Rutko, was born at 1:03pm on June
18, 2009. At 7lbs, 4oz., Bella was a healthy baby
girl. Her family grew anxious when they awaited
major milestones as Bella continued to grow.
On June 21, 2011, a blood test that was
conducted had now changed Bella’s life forever
as she tested positive for Rett Syndrome.
Currently, Bella can not walk unassisted, does
not talk, and uses a wheelchair to get around.
As a sisterhood, we strive to raise awareness and funds in order to educate others on the effects that Rett Syndrome has on those who live with it. Events like Bella Bingo and our Bella Walk do just that.
What Is Rett Syndrome?
Rett Syndrome is a random gene mutation
on the X chromosome. It is rare and affects
1 in 10,000 female births worldwide each
year. Rett is a neurodevelopmental disorder
that causes many different disabilities
including; learning, speech, sensory
problems, seizures, breathing difficulty,
cardiac function, and many more. Sadly,
there is no cure for this. Some events our
organization hosts include; Bella Bingo and
Bella Walk. Both of these events are held to
raise awareness and funds for Bella and Rett
Syndrome research.
